great job at handling my claim, February, 2012
I had to submit a claim on my homeowners policy. It was inspected and settled within a couple of days and the claim representative was very friendly and helpful. I was pleasantly surprised by the customer service I received from Travelers Insurance.

Travelers Insurance is the second largest issuer of personal insurance policies in the United States, and holds the number 89 position on the Forbes top 500 companies. What is unusual about Travelers is that they have achieved such a high ranking even though their policies are largely sold through independent agents rather than dedicated sales. In 2006, Travelers was purchased by the MetLife Insurance group, but has retained their operating name.
Financial Rating
As an owned subsidiary of MetLife, Travelers Insurance shares the same financial ratings. According to A.M. Best Ratings Company, MetLife holds an A+ rating, which means that that company is considered stable but has some room for investment. For personal insurance policies, an A+ rating is probably sufficient, but investors may want to investigate further before making a final decision. However, MetLife is the largest underwriter of insurance policies in the world, and that means you have little to fear from Travelers Insurance, as they have more than 520 billion in verifiable assets to back them up.
